We Just Spent a Week in ASDA Bridge of Dee, Aberdeen (and the Kilted Chef Joined Us)

From Monday 29th June to Sunday 5th July, Succulento had a pop-up shop at ASDA Bridge of Dee — a full week of sharing our sauces with Aberdeen, one taster spoon at a time.

The real deal experienced at ASDA

It's been a long road from a kitchen in Aberdeen to a major supermarket. Succulento started as a way for us, Dami and Ify, to bring the tastes of home — Nigeria — into our new life in Scotland. What began as jars labelled by hand has grown into an award-winning range, and this pop-up was one more step in a journey that's still very much ours to be proud of.

For seven days, shoppers doing their weekly shop got to stop, taste, and discover something different with that nostalgic effect of great tasting food from the: Hot Pili Pili Sauce, Spiced BBQ Sauce, Green Jalapeno Sauce, and our Tasty Fruity Ketchup, all sitting proudly at ASDA Bridge of Dee.

A very welcome guest

Through the week, we were joined by a friend and familiar face in a kilt: Craig Wilson, the Kilted Chef. Craig spent the week, answering questions, offering tasters, chatting with everyone who stopped by and telling them exactly why he rates the range. It meant a lot to have someone with his reputation for good food standing shoulder to shoulder with us, sharing the same enthusiasm we've had since day one.

What people told us

Across the week, we heard it all — the curious ("is the hot sauce actually hot, or..."), the converted (more than one person went home with boxes with the whole range) and the reunions (shoppers who'd first tried us at a farmers' market years ago or buy online were delighted to finally find us in a brick and mortar store). That's the whole point of a pop-up: not just sampling, but reconnecting a community of people who already know good flavour when they taste it.

What's next

This pop-up was a milestone, not a one-off. We're working on bringing Succulento to more shelves, more shops, and more kitchens across Scotland and beyond — and we couldn't do any of it without the people who stop, taste, and buy.
