Introduction

About This Recipe

These bacon grilled plantain sticks are super delicious! Inspired by a popular street food back in parts of Nigeria, we have taken it a step higher and promise an entire fingerpicking experience. We have used the Hot Pili Pili Sauce for that iconic taste.

The Hot Pili Pili Sauce is made with scotch bonnets and a range of fresh ingredients to give a rich delicious taste. Ideally you should use a hot sauce to enhance the experience but you can also use a tomato and pepper based sauce. This recipe is a great idea, for lunch or dinner and an awesome summer BBQ food for your outdoor grilling adventures.

Ingredients

  • 4 medium ripe plantains, peeled and cut into sticks

  • 1 lb. thin cut bacon slices, cut in half

  • 1 tbsp freshly chopped parsley

  • Sea salt and fresh ground black pepper to taste

  • Succulento Hot Pili Pili sauce

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1
Preheat your oven to 180c and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Oil the baking sheet using a brush. If using an outdoor BBQ grill like the Kamado Joe or Weber Grills, you can preheat at the same temperature and go into prepping the plantains.
Step 2
Using a very sharp knife, carefully cut your plantain into thick strips. Wrap the plantain strips with bacon slices and place them onto the prepared sheet pan as shown, leaving about 2 inch space in between each one so that they can be crispy.
Step 3
Drizzle with Hot Pili Pili sauce. Be generous to keep the grill juicy.
Step 4
Roast for about 30 – 35 minutes, until plantain is tender and bacon is browned and crispy to your liking.
Step 5
Serve with salads or chopped vegetables. Don’t forget to add your favourite drink. You can definitely add chicken thighs or wings to your grill. The Hot Pili Pili Sauce can serve as a good marinade and dip because it is also ready to eat.
